The 51% Coalition - Women in Partnership for Development and Empowerment was launched in November 2011 with a mandate to address issues related to the composition of Boards, and recommend measures for their effectiveness. The matter of appointments to Boards is an important issue that deserves serious discussion, as diversity on Boards is critical to sustaining performance. Broadening the composition of Boards increases the size of candidate pools and more importantly, helps expand perspectives at the top.

The ‘Meeting of the Minds’ - facilitated by the 51% Coalition in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) - was aimed at raising these issues and more.
